The materials needed for this design are:

Sable brush
Wax Resist
Sponge
Sander
Pencil
Cleanup Tool
Duncan GL612 Diamond Clear Glaze.

1.  Clean and sponge greenware.

2.  Draw or trace image on plate, label the tulips as to the colours orange or purple, this helps to achieve a good balance of colour in the vase.

3.  Using Yellow Orange paint a wash on all of the orange tulips and in part of the purple tulips where the yellow-red is showing.

4.  On the orange tulips build up the detail with 'dry brushing' first using Poppy Orange, then Coral Red and Brick Red. Use the darker reds to build up the shaded areas to highlight the different petals.

Note: Dry brushing is a technique where a flat brush is used with only a small amount of paint and lightly brushed on the greenware to apply the paint with an almost crayon effect.

5.  The purple tulips are painted in the same manner. The base wash is applied with Willow Yellow.

6.  Build up the detail with Coral Red and Brick Red and dry brushing. Paint the remainder of the purple tulips with the Creative Collection Violet and the dry brush method.

7. The stems of the flowers are painted with a wash of Willow Yellow and then coloured with Irish Green and highlighted with a wash of Coral Red.

8.  Using Cobalt Jet Black that has been watered down, outline the flowers and stems.  Make sure the paint is not too dark and is a light grey in colour when applied.

9.  At the base of the flowers you can lightly dry brush with this the watered Cobalt Jet Black.

10. For the leaves paint a wash of Willow Yellow. Then for the lighter areas of the leaves paint a wash with Irish Green, leaving some of the Willow Yellow to show through. On some of the leaves paint a wash with Peacock Green.

11. Add additional detail with a wash of Leaf Green to add the darker colour. Finally use dry brushing with Teal to build up the shaded areas.

12. With the watered down Cobalt Jet Black slightly shade parts of the leaves with the dry brushing technique.

13. Wax the flowers, stems and leaves.

14. The background is sponged with a 50/50 mix of White and Buttercream. Clean any paint off the waxed areas.

15. Bisque fire.

16. Glaze using Duncan Diamond Clear Glaze, fire again and enjoy!
