African Vase

This design is suited for a vase or rectangular plater, however the design can be adopted to various items.

The materials needed for this design are:

Duncan EZ Strokes translucent underglazes: The following colours have been used in this design, however any colours can be used.

 

EZ004 Willow Yellow

EZ012 Cobalt Jet Black

EZ027 Navajo Turquoise

EZ031 Light Blue
EZ057 Coral Red

EZ058 Poppy Orange

 

Sable brush

Liner brush

Soft Sander

Sponge

Soft Pencil

Duncan GL612 Diamond Clear Glaze

1. Sand and clean the bowl, then draw the design on the plate. Use freehand or trace the outline.

2. Paint the top in Willow Yellow and the hat in Poppy Orange.

3. Paint the dress in three vertical sections using Coral Red, Navajo Turquoise and Light Blue. Incorporate a pattern in the dress using a darker colour.

4. Using Cobalt Jet Black finish painting the remainder of the figure and outline the coloured areas in black.

5. If desired draw and paint similar figures around the remainder of the vase.

13. Bisque Fire.

14. Glaze using Duncan Diamond Clear Glaze and fire again.
