1. Sand and clean the greenware. Use a cleanup tool to remove any large amounts of clay left on the greenware, then sand smooth with the sponge. Finally wipe down the greenware with a damp sponge.
2. Use freehand or trace the outline of the bees and lady beetles, placing the bees and lady beetles repeatedly over the greenware.
3. Paint the lady beetles body with Coral Red. Do not worry about the spots, the black paint can be used over other colours.
4. Paint the bees body with Willow Yellow. Do not worry about the strips, the black paint can be used over other colours.
5. Paint the black parts of the bees and lady beetles. Paint the outline of the bees wings, the white colour will come from the greenware itself.
6. Using the Sgraffito tool draw the eyes and mouth of the bees. If desired you can add some more detail to the lady bugs or bees using the sgraffito tool as has been done on this example.
7. Wax the bees and lady bugs, be sure to include the wings of the bees. Wait for the wax to dry.
8. Using a damp sponge and paint with no added water, dab on the background colour. be sure to give two or three coats to give an even coverage.
